Rest House Sheikh Mahmmod Hafid

The building Rest House Sheikh Mahmmod Hafid was purchased by the Museum in 2007. It is located in the Malkandi district.

It was the home of the first governor of the city after the First World War; over the years has undergone significant degradation and in fact since 2014 is partly under restoration, despite having an  inhabited area.

Sheikh Mahmud Barzanji or Mahmud Barzinji (1878-1956) was the leader of a series of Kurdish uprisings against the British Mandate of Iraq.

He was sheikh of a Qadiriyah Sufi family of the Barzanji clan from the city of Sulaymaniyah, which is now in Iraqi Kurdistan. He was styled King of Kurdistan during several of these uprisings.
